How To Write Creatively
How To Write Creatively
From someone who loves creative writing and who has been doing it for a while, I know first hand the struggle of coming up with a good story to tell and knowing how to put it into words. Here are some tips from my personal experience that may help you in your pursuit of writing a good story.
Use Your Personal Experience
Most of my best writing always comes from my personal experience. Whether you want to vent something out or tell a specific story that you may not have fully processed, this can be your chance to express yourself in a creative manner. Turn your own personal stories into metaphors or change up the characters and make it more interesting, by playing around with events that have already happened it can be not only a very powerful and meaningful story but it can resonate with alot of other people out there as well. For example, if you have gone through a heartbreak and need an outlet to process what has happened, you can write a creative story about it.
Get Clear On What It Is Your Trying To Say
A lot of times story writers get too caught up in the story and forget what it is they're trying to say, this can hinder your writing and make it hard for you to even get back to what the main point is in your story. This can also make your story too long which makes people not want to read it anymore. Having a clear and concise theme and main point to your story can help you outline what it is you want to convey and how you are going to do it. An example of how to be clear in your writing will be to make your story have a clear theme and genre and an example of bad writing would be when your story has no clear theme or is more like a rambling session than a story.
Live Your Life
This is a very underrated tip but most of your creativity comes when you are just living your normal life because creativity comes from the ordinary. If you go out and experience new things, and meet new people and just live your life to the fullest then you will have things to write about, experiences to drive your creativity. You can build hobbies that help you enjoy life a little more.
Get In The “ZONE”
This may seem obvious to long time writers but for any new writers I would say this is the most important tip, once you get in a place where you are focused and the most calm that is when you can produce your best work. Think about where you feel the most at peace within yourself, this helps you to really put a piece of yourself in your work and drive that creativity forward because when you are the most calm and at peace you think more clearly and are able to listen to your thoughts more. For me this environment is created when I’m in a dead silent space just me and my computer, things just seem to flow naturally onto the page.
Be Curious
What are some things you want to learn about, for creative writers you may only think about how to write an interesting and meaningful story for people but curiosity can be used in such a powerful way in creative writing. If you are curious about something, learn more about it and find a way to implement it into your writing. This can make your piece even more creative and fascinating. A good example of this would be Tim Burton movies, they all feed our curiosity because they are strange.
Wrap Up
When it comes to creative writing, it can take a lot of time and effort to really create something that is good and authentic to yourself. However, if you allow yourself to express yourself, feel your emotions and tap into who you are through your hobbies, or talking to new people you will begin to write pieces that are true to yourself and that are creative.
